New Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Anime Announced

According to the series’ official twitter account, a new Higurashi no Naku Koro ni anime is in the works for 2013. The announcement was first made at the Higurashi 10th Anniversary Fan Meeting event recently held in Tokyo Dome City.

Entitled Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kaku, the new Higruashi no Naku Koro ni anime will adapt Higurashi Outbreak, a short story from series author Ryukishi07 (07th Expansion). Higurashi Outbreak was included in the original soundtrack for the 2006 PC doujin game Higurashi Daybreak. The story is set in the same Hinamizawa village of the previous stories. Toshifumi Kawase, the series script supervisor of the previous Higurashi anime projects and the director of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei, is helming the new anime.

07th Expansion’s original Higurashi no Naku Koro ni visual novel software revolves around murders that coincide with an annual festival in a quiet rural village. The software inspired two TV anime series, several video anime projects, two live-action movies, and manga adaptations by several artists.
